Training Needs Analysis

Hannon Brown Ltd places Training Needs Analysis at the centre of its principles. It is an important step for all organisations who believe that development is an ongoing process and the life blood of success.

In even the most training conscious organisation there is a time when the direction of the business is changing and it is necessary to confirm the effectiveness of employee development programmes.

We believe that all employees have the potential to advance and enrich an organisation and fulfil themselves personally in doing so. We can support your organisation in measuring the impact that training has on it in addition to assisting in the identification of appropriate training and development that fully supports your business objectives.

Hannon Brown Ltd will design, report and establish a training blueprint for your organisation. This is a consultative process that establishes the enabling skills for relevant members of staff within your organisation and facilitates continuous staff development.

Hannon Brown Ltd provides Training Needs Analysis on a consultancy basis or in a two day intensive training programme for selected staff.  We use acknowledged methods as well as extensive experience to generate ownership and commitment in this important subject matter. We would be delighted to discuss how we can assist in your organisation’s current training needs.

Stress Audits & Stress Management

The HSE defines stress as "the adverse reaction people have to excessive pressure or other types of demand placed on them".

With the rise in statistics showing an increase in stress related illness, it is now accepted that stress in the workplace impacts on the individual, the organisation and private lives.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) states that the second key reason for absence from work amongst non-manual workers is stress.  There is, therefore, a sound business case for the active management of stress by organisations.

The HSE outlines an organisation’s duty of care to employees.  Organisations will be exposed to prosecution and litigation if they cannot show that they have met their legal obligations.

Rather than organisations taking a reactive approach by dealing with the consequences of stress in the workforce, the HSE propose that the emphasis should be on prevention of the causes of stress.

Hannon Brown Ltd can assist your organisation in dealing with the management standards identified by HSE as areas to be tackled for audit purposes.  These standards have been developed following research into the factors that been found to have caused organisational stress.

From Stress Audit to Stress Management, Hannon Brown Ltd can provide comprehensive assistance in developing policies and strategies that will support your business work to it’s healthiest potential.  We identify and evaluate stress risks to staff, create in-house stress management policies and deliver training courses to provide staff with strategies to limit and manage their stress.

Managing Mental Health in the Workplace

We all have our own unique way of dealing with stress and pressure.  Our lives are busy, demanding and can frequently lead to stress and pressure becoming too much to cope with.  Do we fully understand what it is that promotes a workplace conducive to good mental health?

This workshop provides the conditions for participants to consider how to support good mental health in the workplace.

Some issues covered include;

  • Wellbeing and factors that influence mental health
  • Responsibilities for mental health in the workplace
  • Disability Discrimination Act and its impact on both managers and employees
  • Recognising mental ill health
  • Good practice and reasonable adjustments for a person’s disability
  • Working with, and managing, people with mental health issues

In the U.K an estimated 2.3 million people suffer from  ill-health caused or made worse by their work each year.
Some 32.9 million working days are lost annually due to people taking time off because of their illnesses (HSE2005).
These figures support the business case for promoting systems that advocate, develop and sustain a workplace that is ‘good for your health’.

Personal Effectiveness

Workshops on personal effectiveness deal primarily with individuals in the context of their interaction with those around them. Being skilled in personal effectiveness will give adaptability to the constant changes faced by organisations, whilst being able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the individual and their team. Underpinning all of this is good communication. This is the key to the individual being able to build cohesion, maintain motivation and share information and ideas. To persuade and be persuaded!

The workshop uses scenario exercises to enable individuals to strengthen aspects of their personal effectiveness.

Workshop topics

  • Influencing others - communication, negotiation and assertiveness
  • Making decisions - analytical action and time management
  • Personal drive, self confidence and motivation
  • Embracing change - taking personal control in changing environments

Conflict Management

  • A way out for all - conflict resolution

The workshop draws on a bank of scenario examples involving conflict. Delegates may choose a key scenario that is relevant to their own experience to work on and, over the course of the workshop, delegates have the opportunity to practice the various strategies to achieve resolution.

Bank scenarios range from examples of performance appraisal meetings, customer service, to conflict arising through working with colleagues.

Delegates are invited to identify general issues that arise in their workplace. The workshop is then tailored to incorporate resolution strategies surrounding these issues.

Performance Management

Implemented effectively, performance management addresses the needs of both the organisation and the employee.  Used inappropriately when dealing with poor performers, performance management can invoke feelings of hostility from staff and frustration from managers.

By keeping the process simple, understandable and with defined objectives, it is possible for managers and their staff to use performance management strategies to enhance individual development.

Key aims of performance management are to set objectives, motivate performance and encourage staff potential.

This workshop is equally as relevant to new managers as to experienced managers wanting to refresh existing knowledge as well as to individuals wishing to increase personal awareness.

To be most effective Hannon Brown Ltd recommends that workshop content is agreed on a client led basis using the organisation's own policies to enable appropriate emphasis on those issues of most immediate relevance to delegates.

Workshops are carried out in an intellectually safe environment but may take the delegates outside their comfort zone in dealing with sometimes challenging issues.

With research proving that committing to diversity is not a business choice but a business imperative, Hannon Brown Ltd can also consult in the development of business strategies and policies on diversity issues. We would be delighted to discuss your organisation’s diversity requirements.

Schools Programmes

Enterprising Schools

The greatest measure of the success of a school is how well its pupils are prepared for life beyond the school gates.  This may mean qualifications but increasingly important is how well prepared pupils are to cope with the world of work.  How will their enterprise capability measure up?

Regardless of their future employment, pupils will need to have the financial capability to manage their personal finances.  They will need to be able to operate bank accounts, to deal with the raft of credit facilities available to them, and be equipped to make clear, informed choices.

They will need a basic business and economic understanding in joining the world of adulthood, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future.

Our Enterprising Schools Programme offers sessions to suit all schools and the full range of age groups.  We can offer stand alone sessions of 1 hour duration, to whole day programmes.   Our training is energetic, interactive and lively, with the purpose of positively engaging pupils in developing their entrepreneurial and life skills.   By bringing both public and private sector experience to the training, pupils can gain a good appreciation of the relevance of the transferable skills they are developing in the school environment and a clear understanding of how these skills will translate into enabling their future economic independency.

Topics include;

  • Financial literacy - opening and operating a bank account, understanding credit and interest.  How to manage your bills and where to go for help
  • Setting up in business – the basic financial, marketing and selling techniques and requirements
  • CV writing - selling yourself on paper!
  • Presentational skills and interviewing skills  – putting your best foot forward!
  • Networking  - practising an important skill, both in work and socially
  • Time management – an essential skill at school, at work and at home

Contact us by email, info@hannonbrown.com or telephone 0845 094 2456, for further information and we would be delighted to work closely with you to develop a bespoke training programme that suits the particular needs of your pupils.

Managing Mental Health and Young People

Adults develop coping mechanisms to protect and support themselves. Children and young people can also suffer high rates of mental distress but may not have developed the skills to cope, causing disruption to their family lives and their education.  By early recognition and timely intervention children and young people can receive the right help when they need it.

Young people have to learn to cope with many different situations and unfamiliar challenges, as well as with changes that they face in their daily lives.

Many children will feel sad, anxious, angry or upset from time to time.  For some it is simply part of growing up.  They may share their feelings with others, or they may express themselves in less constructive ways!   For other young people the challenges may have more serious consequences.

As parents, carers or adults with professional responsibility for young people, we have a moral and legal duty of care to ensure their wellbeing.

This workshop provides an environment for adults to consider mental health issues relating to young people.

  • Dispelling myths and challenging the prejudices that surround mental health
  • Recognising and supporting good mental health in young people
  • Developing empathy, and understanding the longer term impact of poor mental health
  • Raising awareness and an understanding of mental health issues in young people
